Michael: Here, she wrote, today I’m performing the final rite. If I do it right, his life will pass into me, his essence will become mine. I’ll feel his strength, his life energy, filling my veins. And when it’s all over, I’ll finally be free. Free from this cursed blood that has shackled me for so long.
Andrew: She really believed in this… transformation. But Michael, where did she get these ideas from? She didn’t talk about… how she came to believe all this?
Michael: This is the last part. In one of the final entries, she mentioned a visitor — a person she met before our wedding. She called him the «Guide.» Apparently, he was some kind of spiritualist who convinced her that she had a «dark potential» that could be unlocked only by sacrificing someone close. She was told that only by taking the life force of a loved one could she gain the power that, in her opinion, belonged to her by birthright. And plus, her mother, she was a witch too, also told her about this bad blood and about purification.
Andrew: Michael… it’s over. She’s gone, and her madness with her. Now you’re free. Whatever darkness she tried to leave in you, we’ll find a way to dispel it.
Michael just smiled in response, offering his father dinner. Andrew never realized that before him was no longer his son. Emily had found herself a new vessel, a new victim.
