Or mere delusion? Linda comprehended she hadn’t experienced true motherhood until cradling her first-born Benjamin. Sophia attained thirteen.
She blossomed into a stunning teen with large, vivid eyes. Yet those eyes conveyed a maturity of sorrow. Sophia brightened around her father, who dedicated ample time to her, permitting sibling care.
Sophia felt joy. Post her mother’s withdrawal, her father’s devotion was comforting. «Monitor your girl!» Linda cautioned her spouse.
«She’s reaching that phase! She could turn you into a grandparent prematurely! Her birth mom started young!» «What kind of lady, what kind of parent!» «I’m not her parent! I’m parent to my boys! Incidentally, you ought to engage more with your real children, instead of doting on this one!»
«Benjamin and Lucas receive plenty. You never leave their side.» «I’m terrified, Robert! Terrified Sophia might injure them!» «Stop it, Linda! You’ve utterly broken the child! Turned her into a villain in your mind! Sophia is gentle. She cherishes her brothers!»
«Brothers!» Linda muttered resentfully. Annually, Linda grew harsher toward the maturing girl. Sophia hit sixteen.
Her peers all applied cosmetics, but Linda denied purchasing any. She prohibited skirts. «Stick to trousers!» she commanded.
«No exposing your limbs!» Once, Sophia requested her father to acquire a skirt for her. «What’s this about?» Robert protested.
«Linda, why withhold a skirt from Sophia?» «I’m supervising your child diligently, as you’d fault me otherwise. You’d claim neglect if she ends up expectant.» «That’s absurd!»
«Absurd? She’s unruly, the troublemaker.» «I’m restraining her firmly, while you yield. Constantly protect her, fulfill her desires. A skirt? For what? To lure admirers?»
«Linda, we connected at sixteen… Identical to Sophia’s age. I recall you wore makeup and brief skirts. Why deny Sophia?» Robert aimed for composure, avoiding conflict. «I’m distinct! I had proper upbringing!»..
